14 yr old Girl barely escapes kidnapping at knife point by fighting back!!! Would your child know what to do to escape?

Video Courtesy of KSL.com

I was shocked with this being so close to home where we a very low crime rate that there are still threats. This 14yr old girl kidnapped at knife point by two 40 yr old men escaped by fighting back and then jumped out of the moving truck! She fought back and because of that she is home safe.

Can you imagine what could have happened to this little girl had she not fought back? What if she had been like so many victims and been intimidated by the knife and two full sized men? Instead of a happy story this could have had a horrible ending.

Here are 5 steps to help you and your child avoid being kidnapped. Remember number 3 is key no matter how scared you are or how intimidated you feel. You must Fight Back!!!

1.      Trust your instincts. If you think you are being followed, hurry to a place where there are lots of people.
2.      Shout your head off. If you think someone with bad intentions is following you, start screaming for help. If it turns out you're wrong, you may be embarrassed. That's better than being sorry.
3.      Fight back. Elbows and knees are great weapons. An elbow to the solar plexus or a knee to the groin of your attacker will stop the assailant cold.
4.      Carry something for self-protection. Personal alarms, whistles and pepper sprays are good tools for thwarting a kidnapping.
5.      Be aware of your surroundings. In unfamiliar areas, watch for exits and stay in well-lit areas. Walk along heavily trafficked thoroughfares. Attackers are less likely to pursue a victim in an area of high visibility.

OREM -- A 14-year-old girl claims she escaped her kidnappers by jumping out of a moving vehicle.
The girl told Orem police two men approached her in a red pickup truck shortly after her school bus dropped her off near 1600 North and 1100 West in Orem.

She says one of the men had a knife and forced her into the vehicle. She says she fought with the men for about five minutes before she managed to jump out of the pickup she says was traveling about 20 mph.
She says she then ran to a nearby store called into Unicity International, called her family, and then explained what happened to store owner Vicat Mauricio.

Mauricio then called police.

Orem police say the girl has been interviewed more than once and her story has been consistent each time.

The men are described to be in their 40's and are driving a red pickup truck.

Less Telemarketing = Increases in Home Invasion Threats! Will you open the door?

The changes in telemarketing laws has created a new surge of door to door salesman. This is especially true in the new high speed internet rush where door to door salesman are racing to every neighborhood to bring faster and faster speeds of internet.

With the stringent telemarketing laws, companies can no longer reach people in their homes by just calling. In addition to this, less and less people have phone numbers listed in calling directories because they going to cell phones. This shift in sales tactics due to the telemarketing laws and less calling directories, is driving companies to send out more and more door to door salesman.

Many of these sales companies do no background or criminal checks and so even greater number of criminals are drawn to these types of jobs. This increase in door to door sales men means more potential threats are coming right to our front doors. In a recent post I did, a women was raped by a criminal door to door salesman who was selling satellite TV. (Story Click Here)

These salesman are very charismatic and can seem none threatening but keep in mind, if they are a predator these attackers will use that charisma to gain your trust and get you to let them in where no one can see what they can do. Even worse, most of these salesman come to homes in the middle of the day when few people are home to notice if there is anything wrong. These criminal salesman can even go unnoticed because we are getting accustom to seeing them more and more, giving them free reign to scope out homes and potential victims.

Women don't answer your door when these sales men come around especially when you are home alone. Be smart, Ultimate Defense is not just about how to handle yourself in the face of threat, it is also about avoiding the potential threat all together. Don't answer the door, don't even come to the door and peer out. Nothing they have to sell do you really need and if you don't even come to the door your risk of attack is lowered dramatically. If you even have a small chance of attack is it worth it?
