Reno man remained jailed Monday after police said he tried to strangle his pregnant wife, battered their toddler, and then waived a loaded gun in the air

A 24-year-old Reno man remained jailed Monday after police said he tried to strangle his pregnant wife, battered their toddler and then waived a loaded gun in the air.

Jaime Rodriguez was booked Sunday morning into the Washoe County Jail on suspicion of strangulation, domestic violence, child abuse and child endangerment. He remained in custody Monday in lieu of $23,272 bail. Reno police were called to the couple’s home in the 4000 block of Gardella Avenue after Rodriguez had left the home, according to a police report. His pregnant wife told officers she had safely taken the gun from her husband, who had then fled the residence. Rodriguez was allegedly grossly intoxicated when following the alleged abuse, he waived a loaded gun in the room and threatened suicide, the report said. Police arrested him when he returned to the home soon after. The woman received medical treatment following the incident, authorities said.
